Q4 holiday readiness checklist for a Shopify store

The weeks before peak season are the cheapest time to fix a problem. Once the rush starts, every slow page and every stock error costs real money and nobody has time to fix it properly. The checklist below is what we work through with stores before the busiest weeks of the year, in the order that protects sales first.

1. Speed and stability

  • Run your homepage, a bestselling product page and the checkout through PageSpeed Insights on mobile, and record the scores.
  • Remove apps and scripts you no longer use, since they add load on exactly the days traffic peaks.
  • Test the store under a realistic amount of traffic if your platform or plan offers it.

2. Stock and product data

Check inventory for your top 20 products and confirm the stock levels match what your supplier can deliver. Make sure out-of-stock items show as unavailable, and that pre-orders say clearly when they will ship. Overselling in peak season creates refunds and damaged reviews that take months to recover from.

3. Checkout and payments

Place a test order on mobile and desktop for every payment method you accept. Confirm discounts, shipping rates and tax work together, and that the confirmation email arrives. A checkout that works on a normal Tuesday can fail under a holiday discount code nobody tested.

4. Ads, feeds and tracking

Confirm your purchase tracking matches real orders, since peak-season budget decisions depend on it. Refresh product titles and images in your Google and Meta feeds, and check the feed diagnostics for any disapprovals before the audience grows. Our tag manager guide and Pixel and Conversions API guide cover the checks in detail.

5. Customer service and shipping

Publish your shipping cut-off dates and holiday delivery estimates clearly, on the product page and in the cart. Set up a tidy auto-reply for order questions, and decide who answers messages on the busiest days. Clear dates prevent most of the support tickets a holiday rush creates.
