“Is my conversion rate good?” is the most common question we get, and the honest answer is: it depends on your traffic, your price point and your category. But there are reliable benchmarks, and knowing where you sit tells you whether your problem is traffic or the store itself.
The benchmarks
Across ecommerce, most stores convert somewhere between 1% and 3%. The median sits around 1.4%. Anything above 3% is strong; the top 10% of stores clear roughly 4.8% and up. Here is the whole band:

Why averages lie a little
A single store-wide number hides the truth. A visitor from a branded Google search converts very differently from a cold Instagram click. Before you panic about a “low” rate, segment it:
- By device — mobile almost always converts lower than desktop. If most of your traffic is mobile, your blended rate will look lower by default.
- By source — paid social is colder than email or branded search. Judge each channel against itself.
- By landing page — your homepage and your best product page are different stories. Google Analytics 4 will show you both.
The levers that actually move it
In order of impact for most stores:
- 01Speed — a slow store caps every other number. Fix Core Web Vitals first.
- 02The product page — images, price clarity, reviews and the add-to-cart moment. See our product page best practices.
- 03Checkout friction — surprise costs and extra steps are where carts die. More in our checkout optimization guide.
- 04Trust — reviews, guarantees and clear delivery promises, done honestly.
These are real client dashboards after conversion work — a store holding a 4.74% rate on 1,043 orders, and another up 977% year-on-year. Same traffic, more orders.
